Gregory Sipp to show mosaic art at the 2017 Newport Jazz Festival

I have been a jazz guy most of my life. I started listening to jazz when I was in the eighth grade. I have wanted to go the Newport Jazz Festival for many years. I know it is the oldest and most respected Jazz Festival in America.

To be in this environment and to be selling my work is truly an honor. My booth will be in the Main Stage area. The name of my business is Gregory Sipp Mosaic Artistry. I make glass mosaic portraits of Jazz artists. I also sell prints of my mosaics. My work was featured on the poster of last year’s Chicago Jazz Festival.

I hope you can come to the festival and please stop by my booth at the 2017 Newport Jazz Festival.

The Great Ray Charles

I did this mosaic of Ray Charles because he was such a dynamic
singer and inspiration for a lot of people. The fact that he was blind
never seemed to matter to him. I liked the fact that he seemed to
really love what he did. And he played and sang with such energy
and passion.

Etta James

Etta James was best known for her incomparable song “At Last”. But in her career she did much more than sing one song. She also sang “Something got a Hold on me”, “A Sunday Kind of Love”, and Trust in Me. (My personal favorite) And many more memorable songs.

Nat King Cole

I just finished a new mosaic of Nat King Cole. I always liked Nat’s singing, but I did not know about his other accomplishments until I started on his mosaic and started looking up information about him. He started off  as a jazz pianist in the 1940’s.

He then started singing and became a very popular singer who crossed racial lines. Straighten Up and Fly Right, Mona Lisa, and Nature Boy were some of his signature tunes in the late 40’s and early 50’s. Nat had a lot of other talents, he was a  film actor, TV actor and he was first African American to have a national variety show in 1956.

He had 5 children, two were adopted, his daughter Natalie Cole was a great singer and performer in her own right. What made his accomplishments even more incredible was he did all these things before his untimely death at the age of 46.

Highlights from Gregory Sipp Mosaic at The Harlem Fine Arts Show Chicago

The Harlem Fine Arts Show was a great experience. There were some internationally known artists there. There were also some celebrities there. S Epatha Merkerson came by my booth and spoke to us about her Chicago show, Chicago Med. She was very down to earth and friendly. In the booth right next to mine was Antonio L. Davis. He paints with his mouth and did excellent work. He is wheel bound and has limited use of his arms.I met a lot of artists and I enjoyed the camaraderie and the sharing that most artists there freely expressed. Overall, the show was a big success and I will be going to the Fine Art shows in the future.

My Chicago Jazz Festival Gallery

I was so proud to have my Mosaic “Coltrane In A Mello Mood” as the Featured Image at the Chicago Jazz Festival 2016 for the programs and T-shirts.   Here are some pictures from that great weekend of Jazz and Art. Known for its artistic creativity, the Chicago Jazz Festival is a favorite Labor Day Weekend tradition. It promotes awareness and appreciation for all forms of jazz through free, quality live musical performance. Since 1979, the festival’s mission is to showcase Chicago’s vast jazz talent alongside national and international artists to encourage and educate a jazz audience of all ages.
